Grove Cottage's Music Man Project Hertfordshire

Grove Cottage recently received an Asda Foundation grant to help facilitate one of their clubs: The Music Man Project Hertfordshire. This is a music education club for people with a learning disability. The club provides accessible music tuition leading to inspirational public performances through the singing, signing and playing of accessible musical instruments, using original repertoire written especially for the project. The club meets weekly and is open to anyone with a learning disability over the age of eighteen.

Vicky Betts, Grove Cottage Fundraiser said: "People with a learning disability are vulnerable to being socially isolated and there is a shortage of services and activities for people with a learning disability in our area. We are all aware of the benefits of music, including increased confidence and happiness, physical movement, and socialisation. There are additional benefits for the members of our Music Man Project, including enhanced knowledge of music and increased opportunities to perform and become more involved with their local community."

The funding given will support the group to continue to offer the club, enabling fifteen people with a learning disability to attend the club and enjoy learning, singing and playing music whilst socialising with their friends.
